ST. JUDE PROJECT: CAN CANCER SAN DIEGO
June 2009

Last April, Nesian officially launched its Can Cancer and Nesian G.R.E.E.N. campaigns in San Diego, CA. Nesian had the greatest response from the public that directly after the event, Nilo Jones, Founder and C.E.O. of Nesian and Joe Gangoso, C.O.O. and partner started to spread rumors that Nesian would be making the Can Cancer Campaign an acutal foundation. Well, the rumors are actually a reality, they did, and it all started in Nesian’s birthplace, the city of San Diego.

They officially launched the campaign at Belo Night Club along with resident promoters Impact Production. Nesian was also joined by SunSpot Pictures, make-up artist Antonella Annibale, Lori Krause of the Luce Loft, Fabricali, Osiris Shoes, Bolts X-Change, Rhino Markting, Skinnie Magazine, White Gorilla Media, O.G. Abel, Wildstyle Technicians, Zodakism, Teklab.fm, Concrete Roots, Kassim Osgood’s Team KO, Epic Motorsports, PNOY Apparel, MTM Modeling Agency, and SeventyNINE company to make this event and campaign a bigger success. Belo has not had a night like this in a very long time. With Nesian DJ’s Impakt, Happee and Nesian and Sleeping Giant DJ Demon, residents Fingaz, Mikeski and Seize, there was no way in hell the music would sound lame. And they made sure it didn’t, all of these djs had the party rocking from 8:45-2am.

Lisa Mathews of Nesian’s Can Cancer Foundation, Angel Camacho of AC Presents, as well as Dan Diamond of Teklab.fm made sure to walk around with the film crew not only to hype up the crowd, but made sure that people knew exactly what the St. Jude Project: Can Cancer is all about.

Nesian announced that there is more cities to come with the next one being Honolulu, HI then Miami, FL. The SJP: Can Cancer events will be going on from now till December. If you would like the SJP: Can Cancer event in your city, send us a resquest! TIll then, thanks for all your support!

Nesian surfs Bali waters

We started off this adventure on the night of Cinco de Mayo. Me, my wife Bre, our friend Javi and his girlfriend Cali loaded huge board bags on our car rental to our departure from LAX. While everyone in S.D. chowed down on Mexican food and enjoyed margaritas and Coronas, we enjoyed our unlimited beers from 30,000 feet in the air.

As we arrived in Bali we are suddenly hit by 90 degree heat and extreme humidity. We were all greeted by the smiles of our drivers and good friend Ian who immediately lead us to the closest Bintang beer. As we drive through Kuta, swarms of motor bikes and scooters squeeze through tight intersections inches from each other.  That evening we had our first surf at a popular restaurant called Ku de ta. The waves weren't great but it felt amazing to jump in the warm water and loosen up our muscles from our 20 hour flight. It was there where we met a local shredder Made aka Rippa, a friendly Balinese guy with a genuine smile. For about a week, Made Sr. and Made "Rippa" escorted us to the playful waves of Bali. A couple times we took a canoe to an outer reef called Airport Lefts, a fun wave you can see from the plane as you descent into Denpasar Airport.  After a week we wanted to explore other islands, which lead us to board Merpati Airlines to Sumbawa.

It is a 2 hour drive to the surfcamp in Sumbawa and during this drive we encountered poverty stricken villages in contrast to the beautiful tropical scenery with wild monkeys roaming wild. The waves in Sumbawa were the best I have ever surfed.  An "A" frame broke right in front of our room of 7 which made it for a convenient surf check.  We surfed all day and drank Bintangs all night. On one drunken night, Ian noticed something in the bush right next to him.  A cobra on our porch!  We harassed it from a distance until the local villagers grabbed a large stick killed it.

After a few days of perfect waves in Sumbawa, we headed back to Bali and air conditioning never felt so luxurious. Caagu is a spot that we frequent because of it's consistency and power in the wave. It was an exceptional trip that catered to each of our likings.  Bali is hard to leave.  The food, the surf, and the friendliness of the Balinese people is what keeps your stoke until our next visit.  Terima Kasih to Ian, Made, and Rippa for stoking us out. Sampai Jumpa di Bali next time.
